So Elizabeth Schumann is pretty rad. She wrote an amazing story as a means to introduce children to the wonderful world of classical music! And given that she's a concert pianist, I think she knows what she's doing.

The CD package hints at a few of the characters in the story, as well as provides a visual reference for the included composers.
